So I am in Munich, Germany.

Hello!

I wanted to come up with a fun way to update people who were interested in my travels without being completely and utterly obnoxious on social media so I landed on the idea of having a little travel blog/newsletter. So fun, right!!!

I am so excited to show pictures and explain funny stories and cool places I have seen with the people who are kind enough to care all that I am up to.

So to catch you up to speed, I am studying abroad in Munich, Germany for about 8 weeks from July 1st-August 20th. The first half of the program is an internship and the second half is taking business communication classes at LMU (the local university).

Currently I am interning at a radio station called M94.5 which is apart of MEDIASCHOOL BAYERN (Bayern is Bavaria in German which is the state Munich is in). The radio station is run by students so how I have been explaining it is basically it is a college student run radio station and media organization—it just isn’t affiliated with a university.

So, each day there is a team of different students that come in and pitch different ideas of local news, current events, social media ideas that we can cover. It has been quite the experience being at a German speaking radio station and having to come up with ideas to cover local Munich news (like I have been here for 72 hours I am not sure if I am up to date with how the Museum funding is going) but nonetheless they have been so accommodating and nice. They do their morning pitching sessions in English which everyday I feel so bad about but they do it anyway and overall have broken the stereotype of cold, harsh and unwelcoming Germans. Everyone has been genuinely so sweet and go out of their way to make sure we have everything we need.

I have been able to do what is called Studiogespräche which translates to “Studio Talks” where I pick a topic, and research it a bit and then write a script where I write out questions for the radio host to ask so the listeners can learn more about the topic. The first one me and Hailey did (Hailey is a UC student here on the program with me also placed at the internship…she is the best and let me borrow all her clothes since my luggage got lost…more on that later) but we get to do these Studiogespräches together and the first one we did was on the German first impressions we had experienced. Since then we have covered current events like Boris Johnson resigning, the Shinzo Abe assassination and the dollar to euro parity (which has been so fantastic traveling lol).

If you ever want to listen in—I am usually on air around 5pm-5:50pm my time which is 11am-11:50am EST (Ohio). Here is the link: https://www.m945.de

I am living in the OlyDorf Bungalows seen in the picture above which is located in the Olympic Village in Munich. The bungalows were where all the female athletes lived during the 1972 Olympics. It is such a cool community living environment and as soon as I got here I kept saying that it feels like I am in a perpetual Ikea. There are shops and restaurants in the center of the community and steps away from the subway station that I take to work everyday, so it is perfect!

Besides from working an 8-6 for about a week now, I have managed to explore Munich, take a day trip to Salzburg and hike in the Alps. It’s has been a packed couple of days and I can’t wait to talk more in depth about it all. I am also exhausted hahaha.

But just wanted to provide a little intro post before I get more in the nitty gritty, so here it is! Just another girl making studying abroad her personality for a little bit but hey, there are worse things in life than enjoying & sharing your travels with the world.

Till next time,
